Mythica Celebratory : Mog Scene

This was a fun piece. Basically I drew two pictures of the background and composited them side by side. The characters were then drawn separate and placed into the scene. Reds and orange hues were painted in and with some layering and opacity changes I was able to snap the lava into place along with the shading and effects. Mythica is turning out to be a pretty fun project. Mostly though I am hammering out the story rather than drawing at the moment.

Mythica Celebratory

If you've read through this blog you'll know I love to tell stories. Not that you've heard any, but trust me I'm always mulling through plot holes and timelines to shore up my wife's questions whenever I indulge her with a late tale. Mythica Celebratory began as a serious tale and you can note the original designs of Big Tom and Dezarath in earlier posts within this blog. But over the last two weeks it has morphed into something Dreamworks could easily slap Black Jack on and make a fortune with.

Whatever fat lovable beast you want Black.

The story solidified into a strong arc and I found myself drawing the Mythics ( the giant monsters ) far more cartoonish than I usually do. I think I was influenced by Dreamworks and Pixar when creating these designs. Thankfully I kept to a bare minimum of characters as so not to burn myself out. Their basic looks will go long way in Story Boarding, merchandising, and selling my artistic soul. Priceless. So far I'm getting a strong feed back on how cute they are from the ladies in my life, so that's a promising sign.

What's not cute about this?
Right now I'm working on a scene from the story and finishing up the colors. I figure about six more and perhaps a small story board with some conceptual pieces thrown in should finish the portfolio project. I've even considered adding a small synopsis or at least a few script pages for good measure.

Dr. Tsunami will rock your career voice actor looking for some Ikea furniture buying power.

You're probably wondering what it's about. Mostly a story about redemption and healing from anger. Other than that you'll have to wait until I start boarding the thing. Needless to say it's an epic saga straddling multiple alien worlds and gigantic monster brawls.

Triffix and Fest just got nominated for evil henchman duty. That never ends well.

The one nice thing about working on this project Is that I gave up the hammer and anvil of the Dodge tool. Instead I'm using overlays and opacity changes for a cleaner shadow line. I hoping to perfect it to a more stable and professional look by the end of it all.

I'll have to consider the warring races involved in the story. This means some vehicle and structural designs to book mark the monster designs. I pretty excited about this one. So more will follow as we go.

Darkest Day

Black and White: Sharpie I love you.

Colored using cs3.
Took second place at the OC fair for digital art in 2007. This completely surprised the hell out me.

King Kong Dynasty

King Kong Dynasty was basically another video game idea. I found myself a big fan of Peter Jackson's King Kong and the wonderful character that Jackson enhanced, you can tell he is fan in love with the subject. I'm also a big supporter of Sandbox games. I feel they allow players a larger extent of personal story telling and adventure. The thought on Dynasty was a open map with various playable characters that offered different perspectives of raw animal power.

Each creature in the drawing has it's own story that play into the King Kong Mythos. Earlier on I was working on another set of conceptual creatures from a follow up to CHIMERA called GORGON. It was a tank mech shooter that had the player trying to stop Godzilla sized aliens from destroying modern day cities.  The GORGON outline was shelved and the designs sat in limbo on my hard drive. When Dynasty took shape in my quiet moments between being a dad and a husband, I quickly placed them into DYNASTY, as foes and bosses.

Well as it goes I sat down and drew out the creatures and tried a different form of shading and coloring. It created a grainier feel and felt right for the drawing.

Some Clouds are full of rain.

Well with Mac getting rid of Mobile Me in a year I have removed all links to it on this blog. I have to now consider a new hosting site for my larger projects while simply using my Blog to show case my work instead of a extremely handy service Mac provided. I'm sure CLOUD will wow me, but I'll have to wait and see how it pans out. For now, It's a simple return to blogging a new piece of art rather than saying click here on the side panel.

So bear with me as we figure out what or where we're going or doing.

Movie Posters and Twitter.

The Alien Poster is a hand drawn image of the Jockey Pilot. I've got some experience drawing these guys thanks to my giant Story Board Project. I lit it up under black lights and got some shadowy effects. It did well and the Tag line is direct from Alien 3.

Now Hp Lovecraft is one of my favorite authors. The only author who in my opinion currently alive who can mimic Lovecraft's horror the best is Stephen King. King knows monsters and I miss the 70's King who threw nightmares at his victims and made you believe it in his words.
When At the Mountains of Madness was announced as a contest I was pretty excited. I love drawing the Elder Gods and this short story is chalk full of them. It delves deep into the lore and sets the stage for the other mythos stories to follow.
