Mythica Celebratory : Mog Scene

This was a fun piece. Basically I drew two pictures of the background and composited them side by side. The characters were then drawn separate and placed into the scene. Reds and orange hues were painted in and with some layering and opacity changes I was able to snap the lava into place along with the shading and effects. Mythica is turning out to be a pretty fun project. Mostly though I am hammering out the story rather than drawing at the moment.

Mythica Celebratory

If you've read through this blog you'll know I love to tell stories. Not that you've heard any, but trust me I'm always mulling through plot holes and timelines to shore up my wife's questions whenever I indulge her with a late tale. Mythica Celebratory began as a serious tale and you can note the original designs of Big Tom and Dezarath in earlier posts within this blog. But over the last two weeks it has morphed into something Dreamworks could easily slap Black Jack on and make a fortune with.

Whatever fat lovable beast you want Black.

The story solidified into a strong arc and I found myself drawing the Mythics ( the giant monsters ) far more cartoonish than I usually do. I think I was influenced by Dreamworks and Pixar when creating these designs. Thankfully I kept to a bare minimum of characters as so not to burn myself out. Their basic looks will go long way in Story Boarding, merchandising, and selling my artistic soul. Priceless. So far I'm getting a strong feed back on how cute they are from the ladies in my life, so that's a promising sign.

What's not cute about this?
Right now I'm working on a scene from the story and finishing up the colors. I figure about six more and perhaps a small story board with some conceptual pieces thrown in should finish the portfolio project. I've even considered adding a small synopsis or at least a few script pages for good measure.

Dr. Tsunami will rock your career voice actor looking for some Ikea furniture buying power.

You're probably wondering what it's about. Mostly a story about redemption and healing from anger. Other than that you'll have to wait until I start boarding the thing. Needless to say it's an epic saga straddling multiple alien worlds and gigantic monster brawls.

Triffix and Fest just got nominated for evil henchman duty. That never ends well.

The one nice thing about working on this project Is that I gave up the hammer and anvil of the Dodge tool. Instead I'm using overlays and opacity changes for a cleaner shadow line. I hoping to perfect it to a more stable and professional look by the end of it all.

I'll have to consider the warring races involved in the story. This means some vehicle and structural designs to book mark the monster designs. I pretty excited about this one. So more will follow as we go.
